Talcum is a mineral composed of hydrated magnesium silicate with the chemical formula Mg3Si4O10(OH)2 . Its color ranges from white to green and it has a distinctly greasy feel.
Its hardness changes from 1.0 to 1.5 Mohs hardness scale and its specific density between 2.58 – 2.83 gr/cm3. It holds monoclinic crystalline structure. It is a weak conductor to fire and acids.
It gets solidified and its hardness increase upon high temperature treatment. Talc is used in many industries such as paper, plastic, paint and coatings, rubber, electric cable, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, ceramics and etc.
